Skylight Options- Which one is right for you?

A fixed skylight is one that is sealed to the roof, which allows for no ventilation. This makes it a very popular option due to the ability to fend off moisture and leaks.

As you can assume, a ventilated skylight allows for airflow into the room. It is most common in kitchens or bathrooms to help remove excess moisture. It may also be a good idea to insert a screen with a ventilated skylight to help keep unwanted bugs out of your home.

While seen in both commercial and residential buildings alike, the tubular design of a skylight has three main components.

• It typically has a parabolic, roof mounted light collector.
• Contains a highly reflective tube which is a diffuser lens.
• The interior fixture that allows for electrical to be wired in. As a result, on a cloudy day it can used as a regular light fixture.

When you cannot install a fixed or ventilated skylight, this is a great option due to its small size.

Similar to a fixed skylight, curb-mounted skylights do not open. It is also an affordable option, making it one of the most common amongst homeowners. To help with leaks, a curb-mounted skylight is insulated and has a double wall.
