Lead Free Certified Renovation Firm
Royalty Companies of Indiana, Inc. has recently received its EPA certification in lead safety training, which allows the company to perform renovations and repairs during projects that require work around lead-based paint in homes and child care facilities built before 1978.
Lead Free Certification
All contractors doing this work must be certified by the EPA, according to a new rule that went into effect on April 22, 2010. Royalty Companies, a certified renovator, is certified for the purposes of Section 402 of TSCA.
“Individual renovators must be trained by an EPA-accredited training provider and the firm must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination,” said Dave Zarick, of Royalty Companies.
Zarick recently obtained the certification for Royalty.
Zarick said to become a certified renovator, individuals are required to take eight hours of training, of which two hours must be hands-on training, to become certified.
“This training is good for five years,” said Zarick. “Lead paint poisoning affects over one million children today."
Adverse health effects include learning disabilities, behavioural problems, and speech delays. If not done in a lead-safe manner, renovations and repair activities that disturb lead-based paint can expose children, as well as adults, to harmful levels of lead dust. So it’s important we know how to handle these situations so no one is adversely affected by lead-based paint,” said Zarick.

"[Another] roofing company was contracted to replace the roof on my building. Severe weather was forecasted for the day of removal. Against my statement not to start, about half of the buildings’ roof was removed.
